Dr. Essig is originally from Hopewell Junction, NY and received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Kansas State University in 2011. She then completed a one year rotating small animal internship in medicine and surgery at Purdue University. This was followed by a three year combined surgical residency and masters degree, also at Purdue University. Dr. Essig has special interests in surgical oncology, orthopedic, and minimally invasive surgery. She has advanced training in laparoscopic surgery and has enjoyed performing prophylactic spay and gastropexy procedures. Dr. Essig joined the team at NIVES in 2015 and together with her husband and young daughter, has enjoyed exploring and getting to know the Fort Wayne area. Outside of work, she enjoys traveling, running and spending time with her 2 dogs, Luke & Pumpkin, and her cat Frank.
