Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to make an appointment?

We are open for emergencies 24-hours per day, 365 days per year. No appointment is necessary for emergency cases. Specialty consultations for Surgery, Internal Medicine, Cardiology and Rehabilitation are available Monday – Friday. Appointments for these services can be made by calling our staff at (260) 426-1062.

Can I visit my pet during hospitalization?

We encourage visits from owners but ask that you call first to let us know you are coming. We allow visitation between 8am to 12-midnight and make every effort to accommodate you and your family. Please keep in mind that there may be a short wait if the staff is working with a critical patient.

Can I leave personal items with my pet?

Yes. We will do our best to keep track of your pet’s items during his or her stay but we cannot guarantee that the items will be returned. Therefore, sentimental items should be left at home. We have a variety of diets available but if your pet is on a special diet you can leave that with us.

What forms of payment do you accept?

Payments can be made by cash, check, debit and credit card.

Do you have a payment plan?

We offer CareCredit, a medical credit card that is accepted by many veterinary offices. The card offers varying payment options with low interest or interest-free payment options. You can apply in hospital or online at carecredit.com.

Can I come to your office for routine care?

We do not offer routine preventive care such as vaccines, dental cleanings, and spays/neuters. Our hospital acts as an extension of your family vet and we work closely with them to ensure the best veterinary care for you and your family.

Where do I take my pet for follow-up care?

NIVES works in collaboration with your primary veterinarian to provide the best comprehensive care for your pet. We will fax or email a summary after each visit to keep them up-to-date on your pet’s status. Follow-up visits may be done at NIVES or with your primary veterinarian depending on your pet’s condition.
