Diagnostic Imaging
NIVES utilizes the latest imaging techniques including digital radiography, ultrasonography, and computed tomography. These non-invasive imaging techniques allow our doctors to more accurately diagnose and treat your pets.
Digital Radiography (X-rays)
Digital radiography is a form of x-ray imaging, where digital x-ray sensors are used instead of traditional photographic film. This allows our doctors to view the results within seconds which is especially important in an emergency situation. Digital images can also be enhanced or enlarged to provide more detailed information compared to traditional film x-rays. The images can also be sent to a board certified radiologist for a comprehensive interpretation.
Ultrasound (Sonogram)
Ultrasound imaging using sounds waves to produce detailed pictures of internal organs in the chest and abdomen (heart, liver and spleen just to name a few). Ultrasound is safe, comfortable and very rarely requires sedation or anesthesia. At NIVES, the images are obtained and interpreted by our in-house specialists allowing for immediate results during your consultation.
Computed Tomography (CT Scan)
Computed tomography is an advanced imaging technique that produces hundreds of cross sectional images in a short period of time. The images are reconstructed to give in-depth information about the bones, joints, spine, nasal cavity, chest and abdomen. This modality is commonly used by the doctors at NIVES to obtain a more accurate diagnosis compared to traditional x-rays and is especially useful for pre-surgical planning. The CT images are reviewed by our in-house specialists and may be sent to a board certified radiologist for a comprehensive interpretation.
