Dr. Gephard grew up in upstate New York, but has also lived in Washington, Illinois, and now Indiana. She obtained her bachelor's degree in biology from Russell Sage College in 2017. While there, she discovered her passion for veterinary medicine after she started volunteering at a local cat shelter. She also interned at Cape Wildlife Center, where she learned how to provide medical care and rehabilitation to local wildlife including bats, opossums, raptors, squirrels, and, her personal favorite, raccoons. She went on to obtain her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Illinois (UIUC) in 2021. While in veterinary school, she also obtained her Master's in Veterinary Forensic Medicine online from the University of Florida, which she finished in 2020. She worked as a student technician in the Small Animal Emergency Room at UIUC, which ignited her passion in Emergency Medicine. After graduation, Dr. Gephard wanted to stay in the Midwest and joined the NIVES team as an Emergency and Critical Care doctor in June 2021. Outside of work, she enjoys baking, reading, playing Escape Rooms with her partner, Robert, and hanging out with her sassy cat, Annabelle.
